Family Dispute Resolution Week
24-28 November 2014
Paradigm Family Law is supporting Resolution’s national initiative ‘Family DR week’ which starts on Monday.
Now in it’s third year the event is all about raising awareness for the many alternative forms of Dispute Resolution available to help resolve family disputes.
Dispute Resolution comes in many forms including mediation, negotiation, conciliation, collaborative law and arbitration. All are alternative ways of resolving differences without going to court.
At Paradigm Family Law, both James and Frank are trained mediators aswell as experienced matrimonial experts. James is also an accredited member of Resolution and abides by their Code of Practice. James also recently received accreditation from the Government under the Help and Support for Separated Families scheme.
The aims behind DR week include raising awareness of the alternatives to court for separating couples and highlighting these options amongst the public, policy makers and opinion formers aswell as those working in the area of family law.
The Resolution initiative is particularly topical this year. From 3 November free mediation is now available which is funded by the Government. Furthermore, Iain Duncan-Smith recently announced the ‘Families Test’ which all future government policies must satisfy before legislation is put to ministers for approval. Paradigm Family Law have blogged about this recently, and the post can be found here.
It perhaps seems that families, and how they resolve their differences, are already becoming a hot topic in the run up to a General Election next year.
Family Dispute Resolution week is also supported by the Family Mediation Council and dispute resolution professionals from ADR Group, the College of Mediators, the Family Mediators Association, the Law Society and National Family Mediation. Resolution have made a video to support the campaign which can be found here.
